Arch Over O’Neal Plaza

This is O’Neal Plaza in Douglasville, GA, which is also the town where the Netflix cult favorite, “Stranger Things” is filmed. I was headed into town to pick up a submission at an exhibition there and decided to throw my plein air gear in the car and paint somewhere in town. As I drove by O’Neal plaza in the center of town, I noticed all kinds of activity going on there - people, music, food trucks, cornhole! Turns out it was Employee Appreciation Day for Douglasville County Emplouees. I’m one of those weird plein air painters who actually LIKES when people come up to talk to them. (Maybe that’s because this is my first year to paint plein air and I’m still in awe of it all!). So, I planted myself right in the middle of the festivities and painted their iconic arch over the plaza. And by the way, the nice people of Douglasville couldn’t be more friendly and welcoming to this outsider.
