This is my second completed and largest work from the ‘Genesis’-series, an attempt to get as far back as we can in time and space, to the very beginning, to that moment in time when “the earth was formless and desolate. The raging ocean that covered everything was engulfed in total darkness, and the Spirit of God was moving over the water.” Painting this piece felt as if touching the universe at times. At times, as if walking through the darkest rooms of my mind. I’m not speaking about the technical complexity only but, mostly, about an emotional impact this piece had on me.
Almost 1m long, it’s a very large work for pastel. Having closed up myself in the studio, I worked long hours, in solitude, completely immersed in the process, applying pastel pigments not just with my fingers, but also with arms, using the full strength of my body, in dry and wet-on-wet technique, pushing the boundaries of the medium and my own.
