I'm drawn to the shapes, light and shadows on rocks, people, flowers, you name it. In watercolor, I've discovered I can quickly capture a scene as a study then take it home and expand on it. In this painting, after returning to my studio, I pushed my color boundaries and went for more of a dramatic color statement. The shapes and values were there for me, it was my goal to turn it into a mostly complimentary color statement with cool violets and warm golds. I'm mesmerized by the unique natural stone cathedrals we have in our parks, it's an honor to paint this scenery. This painting was juried into the International Exhibit for the National Watercolor Society and helped me earn my NWS signature.
