This was painted at and entered into Plein air Easton in July 2022. I had talked to the farmer who owned that farm, and I felt the weight of his responsibility over his family business, as well as carrying on the tradition that is the backbone and heritage of this country. As I stood at a distance to capture this humble but beautiful collection of farm buildings, with the expanse of these fields before me, as the heat of summer bore down on me, in the moment, I added an abstraction of the essence of the farm in my interpretation of what it was like to be a farmer in America in these times. There is a wealth and an equal weight to this proud profession and caretaking of this American land.
