This painting completely evolved from my reference photo. As we were driving home on a drizzly June day from Montana, I snapped tons of photos through the vehicle window. Otherwise my husband would have been stopping every five minutes and we wouldn't have made it to Great Falls where we were visiting the Charlie Russell Museum. I love all things pastoral! I changed the stream which ran horizontally across the landscape. Next the bright spring leaves didn't inspire, so I changed the trees to have autumn colours which really resonated with me. I had also placed a palomino under the tree on the right, but it wasn't speaking so I used another of my reference photos and replaced that horse with a sorrel in a different location and position.
