"Wine is sunlight held together by water" - Galileo
The process of fermentation in wine making turns grape juice into an alcoholic beverage. This interesting and positive painting plays on the idea of fermentation where the grapes are changing and merging together as in a symphony of movement and colour. The idea that “wine is sunlight” is reflected in the powerful and positive feelings that this painting lends to the viewer by bright colours and a harmony of circular brush strokes.
Fermentation is a metabolic process that produces chemical changes in organic substrates through the action of enzymes. The concept here is the state of change from the circular grape, moving and merging into the larger mass - “held together by water” until the organic nutrients are degraded anaerobically.
I painting this bright and inviting piece with the intention of sharing uplifting, harmonious and positive energy - a certain enjoyment that wine lovers appreciate. The colours are dynamic and bright, yet the white strokes create a sense of calm.
